Samsung Intercept

The Samsung Intercept is a new Android OS device coming from Sprint and offering entry level features with touchscreen and a sliding keyboard. This new mobile phone is offered by Sprint for the price of $100 with a two-year contract. For those who are used to change mobile devices, picking up the Intercept could remind them of Nokia N97 , as it is larger than most ultimate features thin devices and about as thick as the above mentioned Nokia N97. Still, it definitely has a different profile in the user`s and than most non-slider devices.

The Samsung Intercept features a decent weight and the only time when this does not feel right is when turning into the landscape mode but keeping the keyboard covered. Quite strange , but the weight feels fine when the QWERTY keyboard is being flicked-out, even unintentionally. The front of the device is shared by 3 inch , 400×240 megapixel display, and unlike other smartphone devices delivered by Samsung recently, this one is not a super AMOLED but a standard LCD. Additional to this is a directional pad with a touch pad like scroller, and the other usual Call/ End/ Power and the four action buttons: Menu/ Home/ Back/ Search.

The keyboard of Samsung Intercept is quite similar to the one of NOKIA N97/ N97 Mini while the keys are nearly flush with the surrounding plastic, sometimes disturbing the user while typing. The good part is that the numbers have a dedicated row, far different from the other ways of accessing them with the Fn key as some of you have probably seen on other mobile devices. The volume buttons situated on the left side and the camera button on the right bottom can be really stubborn initially. It can be said that they were definitely designed to be pressed unintentionally. It also features a memory card slot and a 2GB micro SD HC memory card. The Intercept features a 3.2 megapixel camera (which does stills and videos), having a design theme also seen in many recent devices with the possibility remove entire panels to get access to the removable battery (1500 mAh).

The Samsung Intercept uses a Google Android operating system, but unlike other devices form Samsung it does not feature a Touch Wiz Interface. Still, it does have a number of widgets and three home screen to customize, to personalize the user`s experience. The standard Android OS web browser is present, Google Maps, YouTube, and a Microsoft Office file viewer. As in the case of many carrier-led releases, the Intercept features some carrier-specific applications such as Sprint TV, Sprint Football Live, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile. With this device, the Android Market is also accessible, providing access to some third party applications. The access to the Sprint`s 3G network (EV-DO Rev) including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS receiver. With all these features it can be said that Samsung Intercept is well designed mostly for messaging and Web.
