Sony Ericsson Theme Creator
Published by Kovacs Eduard Andrei, on July 28th, 2011, in the categories: Sony Ericsson
Most Sony Ericsson fans like to customize their mobile phones by adding sounds, ringtones and images to their phones in order to make it feel more personal. Those who really want to make their phone’s interface look different, install a theme. The number of Sony Ericsson themes available on the internet is high and the chance of finding something you like is also high. But what do you do if you are more pretentious and no theme found on the internet is good enough for you. In this case, all you have to do is install a theme creator for Sony Ericsson phones and create your own theme.

The official theme creator is available on Sony Ericsson’s official website and it’s compatible with all the phones that allow for themes to be installed. Once you have downloaded the Theme Creator, you’ll need to install it to your computer. The installation file has about 20 megabytes and the installation process itself is pretty standard. All you have to do is choose the location where the app will be installed and hit a few Next buttons.

After the installation is completed, start the Theme Creator and a window will pop-up that will ask you if you want to create a theme using the wizard, or by editing a theme in advanced mode where you are in full control of all the elements. If you choose the wizard, you will be able to create a theme in no time. First you have to choose the screen resolution and then apply a background image that you want on your main screens. Then you can choose the color scheme and the style. You can choose between 5 styles that will define the basic layout of your screens. In the sound setting window, you can choose the sound for the ringtone and the messages alert, by importing audio files from your computer. After all of these steps are completed, you can preview your theme in the Preview window.
If you choose to make your theme in the advanced editor, you can choose among a larger number of options, like status and softkeys, highlights, pop-ups, input options and text options. This second method is a bit harder to use, but you’ll certainly manage after you get the hang of things. This method is recommended if you want something more complex and you have the time to do it.
Samsung C120 Mobile Phone
Published by Kovacs Eduard Andrei, on July 26th, 2011, in the categories: samsung phone
The Samsung C120 mobile phone is somewhat of an old phone, released in 2005, that currently has been discontinued from production. It might be considered a great second hand phone by some people as it is great for talking, simple texting, and its menu might be considered easy to use, especially by seniors.
Regarding the design, the Samsung C120 is a simple candy bar phone, with a 1.6 inch display, that can accept resolutions of up to 128×128. Its shape is a bit odd, as the screen occupies only 1/3 of the phone’s entire case, this giving it an unproportional aspect. It’s not a large device, measuring only 100 millimeters in height and 18 millimeters in thickness, this making it very practical to carry around.

I did say the phone is recommended for senior citizens and this is because it doesn’t have anything unusual when it comes to performance. It has a 65000 color display, but it can only play monophonic audio files, which is not very appreciated among young people, especially these days when technology is rising each day. The phone hasn’t got any sort of memory, being able to store only 200 phone numbers and a few text messages. Apart from that, it hasn’t got anything related to connectivity and the camera is totally absent. As I mentioned, the phone is great for talking as the battery life is more than decent, offering almost 300 hours of stand-by time and almost 7 hours of talk time. The signal on the device is great, even in areas where the signal reception is not very good, and the basic applications like the calendar, the calculator and the currency converter are enough for those who use the phone for its main purpose.

I recommend this phone as a present for senior citizens, as the menu is easy, it’s relatively small, but not too small, the screen is big enough to see the menu and the contact list, and most importantly, because the phone is no longer available, you can probably find it at a price close to free on some websites like e-Bay. Users who already own this phone, or those who have owned it in the past are more than satisfied with the phone’s functionality and general behavior.
Samsung D500 Mobile Phone

Today’s articles are dedicated to old Samsung mobile phones, that might not be able to impress anyone now, but back in the day they were real jewels of the mobile technology. Further, we’ll take a look at the Samsung D500, which at its time, back in 2004, was among the most popular phones in the world, as it combined a great design with some features that were considered mind blowing.

The Samsung D500 is a slide phone, being among the first really stylish slide phones of its class. The phone is a bit thick, but if you consider that it weighs only 99 grams, it can be considered a lightweight phone. The display is fairly big, with a 1.9 inch diagonal that was more than enough to run the java applications of that time. Its TFT screen can manage up to 256K colors which meant that all the pictures were seen at high quality.
This model has a 1.3 megapixel camera, with an image resolution of up to 1280×1024 pixels. Other features of the camera include an LED flash and digital zoom which allowed the user to take pictures from a greater distance. These pictures could not be stored on a memory card, as the phone does not have a memory card slot, but it still has a decent 100 megabyte memory which could probably hold up to more than 200 photos taken with the internal camera. This number decreases considerably if you want to store other media files. The good part about the memory is that the phone has a separate 4 megabyte memory allocated only to java applications, which meant that you could install a high number of apps.

In terms of connectivity the D500 has Bluetooth support, it has an infra red port and it’s among the first phones that could be connected to a computer using a USB cable. The phone allows WAP browsing on the internet and if upgraded to a 1000mAh battery, it could offer a talk time of up to 8 hours.
This being said, I couldn’t recommend the phone to a specific group of people. Some might like it because it’s a cheap phone that can still do a few things, while others might like it because it was a pioneer among the cell phones who incorporated new technologies, like Bluetooth, and still came at a commercially efficient price.
Rogers Cell Phone Plans

In a previous article we checked out the mobile phone offer from the Rogers wireless services company and in this piece, we’ll take a look at their offer regarding the cell phone plans they have. As most companies, the guys at Rogers offer 3 main cell phone plans: individual plans, family plans and a plan not seen at many carriers, the senior plans. The last plan category is specially made for senior citizens and it offers them a whole bunch of bonuses they can use.

Further we’ll take a good look at each plan, starting with the individual plans. There are 8 individual plans, with prices ranging between 30$ and 70$, each offering a certain amount of minutes and data traffic. For instance, the cheapest individual plan gives the user 150 minutes that he can use anytime, unlimited messaging, unlimited access to social networking and browsing, and unlimited minutes throughout the local network in the weekends and evenings. A 70$ plan will give you 500 minutes, 1 gigabyte of internet traffic from your cell phone and as a plus, you can share your internet traffic with up to 4 devices if you pay an extra 11$ each month. A great thing about the individual plans is that you can make your own combo plan by combining voice plans with data plans.

The family plans, like with any other carrier, give you the opportunity to share a certain number of minutes and a certain amount of internet traffic. For 100$ per month, you can share 400 anytime minutes and 1 gigabytes of internet traffic with up to 5 lines. For 140$ you can share 1000 minutes and 2 gigabytes of internet traffic that you can split among close friends or family. As with the individual plans, you have the opportunity to build your own plan by selecting a voice plan and then a data plan that best suits your needs. Another thing worth mentioning is that for each extra line you will have to pay an extra 12$.
The senior plans are very basic in order not to confuse the senior citizens as there are only 3 data plans to choose from. For 15$ a month you get 100 minutes, for 20$ you get 150 minutes and for 25$ you get 200 minutes. Also for these plans there is no internet traffic included.
IFrogz Case For Apple IPhone 4
Published by Kovacs Eduard Andrei, on July 25th, 2011, in the categories: IPhone Cases
Because today’s articles are dedicated to iPhone 4 cases, we’ll take a look at another iPhone case, this time a model from iFrogz. Like the previously presented casing, this one is also very basic, it’s main feature being the enhanced protection it offers. Because iPhone’s are considered to be very fragile devices, it’s always a good thing to purchase a case as means of offering extra protection to your phone.
Most people started purchasing the iPhone 4 bumper case from Apple because they think that if it’s from the manufacturer itself, it’s the best. Actually they couldn’t be more wrong. Apple started making these bumpers mainly because they discovered the reception issues the iPhone 4 has. If the user holds his hand in a certain way when he’s speaking on the phone, the reception can be lost partially or completely. Until they resolve this issue, Apple recommended that iPhone 4 users use protective casings that will insolate the phone’s antenna from the human hand. As a result, most of the cases that Apple provides for the iPhone are not as good as the cases provided by independent manufacturers who put a lot of effort into their work.

The case from iFrogz is a great alternative as it offers enhanced protection, at the same time keeping the phone stylish. The iFrogz Luxe case is a two piece simple casing that gives the user access to all the buttons and connectors on the phone. This way, the user won’t have to take off the case when he wants to charge the phone. Because it’s made out of two pieces, the installation procedure is really easy, the user not having to force the phone into the casing. The soft materials that cover the inside of the casing will make sure that the back of the phone won’t get scratched while inserting the device into the case. The iFrogz case comes at a price of 29$ and can be purchased almost anywhere, including the AT&T stores for which the casing was originally designed for.

The iFrogz Luxe case is a great alternative for the Apple Bumper case, offering a good grip, enhanced reception and protection to your iPhone 4. The low price and the simple yet stylish design, make this accessory a great purchase if you don’t want something that stands out of a croud.
