In 2008, to celebrate three years from the release of their first Walkman phone, the guys from Sony Ericsson launched three anniversary models, among which, the W595. This model was a strange looking phone that was great for the time when it was released.

The basic color for this phone was a really nice looking shade of blue, but it also came in black and grey. When it comes to the general design of this device, the curved top and the curved away bottom of the phone have to be mentioned, as these are the key features of the design. A shiny trim is situated along the edged and the curves of the phone, which makes its way around the entire casing, making the phone a bit more stylish. The finishing touch of the phone is made out of a rubber like material, which offers a better grip, making the phone more secure in the user’s hand. The slide works smoothly, the phone remaining perfectly balanced, even if it’s in open position. Most people who own this phone say they are satisfied with the general design, but they think that the guys from Sony Ericsson could have trimmed a bit of the top, as the phone seems a bit too long.

The phone comes with a 2.2 inch screen, which is large enough for the main functions of the phone, like navigating, taking pictures, or video viewing. It comes with a 3 megapixel camera that takes decent pictures, which can be stored on the 8 gigabyte memory, provided by a memory card. Because it’s a music player, the phone comes with a stereo loudspeaker, a very uncommon thing for mobile phones. Also because it’s a music player, the battery life of the device must not be neglected. It offers 26 hours of music listening time and up to 9 hours of talk time in 2G mode.

Review Of Sony Ericsson W595 Mobile Telephone (Source: st2.gsmarena.com)

The phone is still available today, probably because it was a great model that quickly became popular among Sony Ericsson fans. Because it incorporates features like an accelerometer, this particular phone can be expected to be around for a while longer, as it’s clear that when it was released, it was way ahead of its time.

Unlike other articles I’ve written, in this one I’m not going to tell you how to find apps for a certain model of Sony Ericsson mobile phone, instead I’m going to tell you how to install apps that will work on your phone and where to find them. Sony Ericsson has been flirting with a lot of operating systems, starting from own operating systems that could run only Java, then moving up on the latter and making phones that ran Symbian operating systems. On the more recent Sony Ericsson models we can find operating systems like Android and even Windows Phone which means their phones are smartphones that can run almost anything.

Apps For Sony Ericsson Phone (Source: sonyinsider.com)

Before surfing the web in search for applications to install on your Sony Ericsson mobile phone, you must ask yourself some questions and determine exactly what type of phone do you have, Is it a feature phone or is it a smart phone? If it’s the first category, it means you can probably install only java applications, but only if the phone is a more recent model that has some sort of a memory and Java support.

If you are the lucky owner of a smartphone, you will have a lot of apps to choose from, all you have to do is find out what type of operating system is installed on your phone. The operating system should be shown in the manual of the phone or in the user’s guide. If you bought the phone from someone and you don’t have the manuals, you can always check out the internet to find out which is on your phone.

Apps For Sony Ericsson Phone (Source: sonyinsider.com)

If you have a phone that’s compatible only with Java apps, you can check out websites like www.java-phones.com or www.m.getjar.comstraight from your mobile phone or from a computer. If you are the owner of a Symbian phone, you should check out websites like www.symbian-freeware.com or www.60symbian.com.

If you own a high-end smartphone with a Windows Phone operating system, you can get apps straight from Microsoft’s site. Many of the apps are free, but this is because the operating system isn’t. And finally, Android users are the luckiest when it comes to apps for phones, as Android apps can be found on a large number of websites, many of them being free. Out of the bundle of app containing sites I mention only Android Market, which is the official marketplace for Android applications.

Most Sony Ericsson fans like to customize their mobile phones by adding sounds, ringtones and images to their phones in order to make it feel more personal. Those who really want to make their phone’s interface look different, install a theme. The number of Sony Ericsson themes available on the internet is high and the chance of finding something you like is also high. But what do you do if you are more pretentious and no theme found on the internet is good enough for you. In this case, all you have to do is install a theme creator for Sony Ericsson phones and create your own theme.

Sony Ericsson Theme Creator (Source: qweas.com)

The official theme creator is available on Sony Ericsson’s official website and it’s compatible with all the phones that allow for themes to be installed. Once you have downloaded the Theme Creator, you’ll need to install it to your computer. The installation file has about 20 megabytes and the installation process itself is pretty standard. All you have to do is choose the location where the app will be installed and hit a few Next buttons.

Sony Ericsson Theme Creator (Source: screenshots.en.softonic.com)

After the installation is completed, start the Theme Creator and a window will pop-up that will ask you if you want to create a theme using the wizard, or by editing a theme in advanced mode where you are in full control of all the elements. If you choose the wizard, you will be able to create a theme in no time. First you have to choose the screen resolution and then apply a background image that you want on your main screens. Then you can choose the color scheme and the style. You can choose between 5 styles that will define the basic layout of your screens. In the sound setting window, you can choose the sound for the ringtone and the messages alert, by importing audio files from your computer. After all of these steps are completed, you can preview your theme in the Preview window.

If you choose to make your theme in the advanced editor, you can choose among a larger number of options, like status and softkeys, highlights, pop-ups, input options and text options. This second method is a bit harder to use, but you’ll certainly manage after you get the hang of things. This method is recommended if you want something more complex and you have the time to do it.

Sony Ericsson mobile phones are renowned world wide for their excellent cameras, but another thing great about Sony Ericsson phones is that they are among the best walkman phones on the market. A representative phone for the walkman phone category is the 810 model which even if it’s a bit outdated these days, it’s still enjoyed by users all around.

Dead Sony Ericsson 810 (Source: phonesdistrict.com)

Before getting to the point of this article, in which we’ll talk about how to revive a dead Sony Ericsson 810 model, we’ll take a look at the phone itself. Besides excellent qualities when it comes to audio playback, the phone also has some other interesting features that make it a great phone, like the 2 megapixel camera. The phone has 20 megabytes of internal memory which is not merely enough for mp3 files, but it’s certainly enough for applications that can be installed on such a phone.

Dead Sony Ericsson 810 (Source: images.brighthub.com)

If someday you realize that the phone is dead, or in other words it doesn’t respond to any command and the screen is black, here are the things you should try. First of all, if the phone wasn’t used for a longer period of time, the battery could be discharged completely and to recharge it it’s not enough to just charge it like you would normally do. If it’s completely discharged, you need to charge it for at least half an hour before the charging icon will appear on the screen. Because the death of the phone is probably caused by the battery, we’ll focus on that for now. So another thing you should do is make sure the battery connectors are clean, as these might get dirty and in that case the battery will not provide the necessary power. Also make sure the connectors are undamaged, because if they are, the phone needs to be taken to a repair shop. The final thing that could be the cause of this problem related to the battery is the death of the battery itself. If the battery is dead or old, it might need to be replaced with a new one. Before buying a battery though, make sure the issue isn’t a result of a defective charger. If you have the required tools you can measure the output voltages of the charger to make sure they are as the label indicates. One last thing worth trying, if nothing else works is a firmware update, using the Sony Ericsson Update Service.
