In the press release, Apple speaks of “an offense involving 20 patents related to user interface, architecture and hardware of the iPhone.” How are Google and Microsoft related to this? In the complaint, the patents cited are mainly about the software (including the multitouch management). However, the mobile operating systems in question are not developed by HTC but by Google (for Android) and Microsoft (Windows Mobile).

Why now?
HTC has obviously been taken by surprise, hearing the complaint from Apple via the press. But it’s been a while that Apple is preparing the battle. Last year, the output of the Pre Palm, Apple had warned that it would protect its “intellectual property” to the end. The relationship between Apple and Google have deteriorated as Google continued its foray into the phone market. Its CEO, Eric Schmidt, left the board of Apple last year. The launch of the Nexus One, sold directly by Google, was the the drop that spilled the cup. Until now, Google had crippled the multitouch in the United States, it seems, not to offend its rival. But in early February, an update to the Android Nexus One ended it.

Patents, how does it work?
It’s complicated. The situation differs between countries (the scope of software patents is much more limited in the European Union, for example). But the lawyer Eric Goldman, director of studies of the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara, the heart of Silicon Valley : “Patents, they are sometimes hundreds of pages ultra technical. To prove that a competitor is in breach, it is not done by attacking on a specific paragraph. We must prove that it violates a series of joint specifications.

Who has what to gain?
In general, the ultimate goal, says the lawyer, “is that justice requires a license fee to the competitor to use a technology. This can sometimes amount to several hundreds of millions of dollars. Sometimes, as with Palm, it is-until now-only the threat of prosecution.

Why Apple seems to be more aggressive?

If you have a smartphone, you probably are already familiar with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, the mobile operating system used mainly by Motorola and HTC, but where it innovates, it presented to us their own mobile phone invented and produced by Microsoft itself! According to some experts, it would be the “best smartphone since the iPhone”, or more interesting than the Nexus One, the Motorola Droid and the Palm Pre, which remains one of the greatest achievements of this sector .

This smartphone, just like the iPhone ,and which is probably closer to a laptop than a mobile phone should have been released three years ago, shortly afterthe release of the Apple`s iPhone . Seeing the success of the iPhone, Microsoft has clearly chosen to play on quality and innovation.
And apparently, by comparison with the miserable failures of Nokia and Samsung, who wanted to run  a fast movement in the “iPhone Like” phones , it was the right choice, as many analysts predict a great success to the Windows Phone 7.

Another new mobile operating system, which replaces more or less wisely Windows Mobile. Big improvements are available, which we can say that it makes you want it !
In particular, and to only mention at this point that in  the level of navigation and accessibility ,everything is now structured, what was missing in Windows Mobile is present in this new OS and to access an application or manage your programs, it now takes a “click” (if one can call it that).

In addition, Microsoft has finally managed to achieve all its many services in one system, so the HD Zune, Xbox Live, Bing, Internet Explorer Mobile, Windows Live Messenger and many others literally follow you everywhere.

But the OS Windows Mobile Phone 7 will not be restricted to Microsoft! Many other applications are making  the presentation better , and most importantly, bringing new features to the phone. Thus, from Vinageer gpsOne (the instant messaging system , not the browser.) to Facebook, the least we can say is that er have a lot of choices concerning the use of this smartphone. In terms of Windows Mobile, nothing is less certain. It does not seem to be completely dead, but clearly it can not compete with his successor, which will be able to be sold separately from Windows Phone, a bit like the Palm webOS or the iPhone OS.

The question asked is  :  what will Apple do now that Microsoft is also releasing a smartphone? Because we all remember that Apple , at the launch of the Nexus One by Google ,decided to replace the search engine of its iPhone, which at that time was Google, by the Microsoft Bing.

1. Data security in case of theft
