In this article we are going to take a look at the epic battle between two of the best mobile phones currently on the market, HTC Evo 3D and iPhone 4. Both of the phones are great, with excellent performance charts and an eye catching design, but there are some things that differentiate the two, and those are the things we are going to highlight further in this piece.

First of all, we must take in consideration the fact that the Evo is almost one year newer than the iPhone, so it has a slight advantage when it comes to recent technologies. If we look at the design part of these devices, we can come to the conclusion that even though they both look good, the HTC is bigger by an inch than the iPhone. This is a thing that can make up a person’s mind when it comes to buying a mobile phone, as many people don’t like phones that are too large in size.

HTC Evo vs iPhone 4

To further analyze the displays, Evo has a 3D S-LCD 4.3 inch touchscreen display, while iPhone 4 has a 3.5 TFT LED-backlit display. This is what I was talking about earlier. Evo incorporates the 3D technology, something that wasn’t available at a commercially feasible price at the time when the iPhone was launched. Both phones incorporate technologies like an accelerometer, a gyro-sensor and multi-touch functions, but only the iPhone has a scratch resistant display.

HTC Evo vs iPhone 4

One of the biggest differences is when it comes to the mobile operating system of the phones. IPhone 4 runs an iOS 4 operating system and HTC Evo runs an Android Gingerbread operating system. Even though both are excellent, many people prefer Android and in the same time, some people cannot use anything except iOS due to its great maneuverability and design. Both phones have 5 megapixels cameras with all the features a mobile phone camera can have, so this isn’t really something that would tell them apart from each other. On the other hand, the HTC has a better mobile processor than the iPhone. The difference isn’t big, only 200 MHz, but this might be considered much by someone who uses the phones for professional purposes like mobile software development.

The bottom line is that both of the phones are reliable high-end devices, and if you take a look at the article above, and take in consideration the differences listed, it might help you make up your mind about which is better for you.

2010 was a very good year for smartphones. Each big player on the phone market and not only, has launched at least a phone that most of the people would die to posses. Of the many models launched I’d like to mention a few like the Google Nexus series, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X series, from LG, the Optimus series, Dell Aero and Venue, the Samsung Galaxy series and last but not least, the HTC Desire series.

From all of these, this article will concentrate on one in particular, HTC Desire HD. Released in October 2010, the phone was a big hit from the day it came out, HTC one again proving themselves capable of building a more than decent mobile phone. The 4.3 inch capacitive LCD touchscreen is the first that catches the eye, the display not only being pretty, but also very practical with a lot of new technologies incorporated. The phone is powered by a Scorpio 1 GHz processor, 1.5 Gb of internal memory and a random access memory up to 756 Mb, all of this under the careful administration of the Android Froyo operating system.

Best 2010 Android phone

One important feature of the phone is the camera, an 8MP that handles giant resolutions for a mobile phone. The phone includes most of the common apps, every Google app you can imagine, special apps for most of the social networks and codecs for most audio and video file types. In the 2G mode, the battery can handle a talk time of up to 9.5 hours and a stand-by time of up to almost 500 hours, which is absolutely great for a mobile phone. If we do a little math we come to the conclusion that if it’s not used, the phone can stay on for about 20 days, all this thanks to the innovating technologies it incorporates. Another great thing about the HD version is the way it shoots video scenes, more specifically 720p resolution. The connectivity has no boundaries when we speak about HTC Desire, the phone including a high performance connectivity component for everything except infrared, which is outdated anyway.

Best 2010 Android phone

It’s been half a year since HTC Desire HD was presented to the public, but its popularity kept increasing, today being a competitor for the new iPhone. If you are looking to spend some money on a good phone, you should really give Desire HD a chance.

If we do a quick search we come to the conclusion that there are over 60 mobile phones running an Android operating system, powered by a 1 Ghz processor. This type of phones are very popular because Android is a powerful operating system and combined with a lot of computing power, we realize that the mobile phone becomes a very powerful device with which you can do almost everything you normally do with a laptop.

Next we are going to exemplify a few of these phones so if someone is interested in buying such a phone, they’ll know what to look for. First, let’s start with the phones offered by Samsung. Two of the best phones from Samsung are the ones from the Galaxy series and the ones from the Google series. Both of them are touchscreen phones, with large displays, large amounts of memory and decent cameras for taking pictures and filming those memorable moments.

1 Ghz phones running Android

Sony Ericsson also has a couple of high-end phones that run Android, XPERIA X10 and the XPERIA PRO. In a few words we can describe the two as being very capable phones, with 8 MP cameras, enough memory for anything you can think of and every other feature a smartphone can have. XPERIA PRO also has a slide QWERTY keyboard to facilitate navigating and fast writing.

We move on with the next brand of smartphones running Android, Motorola. They offer the DROID series, a line of very slick phones, all touchscreen, some with QWERTY keyboards, most of them running the later version of Android, the 2.1 Éclair.

From LG we have the Optimus series, all equipped with Android 2.2, upgradable to 2.3. The only downside to Optimus is that many of them have a slightly weaker performance than the phones provided by the main competitors.

1 Ghz phones running Android

The last, but not the least on our list is HTC Desire HD, a very powerful phone with the Froyo operating system, an 8 MP camera and all the features you can imagine. Released half a year ago, we can surely conclude that HTC hasn’t cut any corners when building this one.

The base line is that if you are looking to buy a powerful phone, the above mentioned are not to be desconsidered, as they represent the future of mobile phones.

Some machines draw the eye and the envy than others. The HTC Magic is one of them.
Looking at the HTC Magic , “sexy” is the first word that comes to mind. Small enough for a device with screens larger than 3 inches, thin, it fits comfortably in hand.

Its Glossy white fashion is exemplary, especially when compared to early models of the big brother G1, a good tone on the finish below general.

Downside, also said that is part of the sexy design, the buttons are really small and a man’s hand will find it hard to use the keyboard. There are 6 buttons in the front (Home, Menu, Back, Search, Pick, End) and that’s a lot in a small form-factor. The Search button is not that important though ! Indeed, this search function (on Google of course) is available on one screen as a host Widget. Regarding the size / weight, I would say that the device has dimensions quite good for everyday use. Easy to learn, small enough to fit in a pocket and easily be placed in a bag.

Surprising and a bit confusing as any new cell phone you will get, you can easily get accustomed to the user interface. The thing that stands out is the general fluidity of the Android OS, the applications being loaded or not. The automation of the race condition will disappear soon enough, everything happens in slide here.

Before starting with a Smartphone OS Android, a procedure for operation is necessary. In fact quite simple, this activation can save the google account on the phone (or create one) then check out Google’s info directly (Emails, Calendar (s) and contacts).

Camera
The integrated digital camera of the HTC Magic is 3.2MP and allows the taking of pictures and video. It lacks a physical button for direct access to the NPC and clearly missed the button when taking a shot. The feeling on the virtual button is worse than a physical button, especially for using the auto-focus.

Listening to music
The music playback quality is good on the HTC Magic, I would like to have though an equalizer to enhance the sound a bit output, but unfortunately no equalizer in the player comes standard on the HTC Magic.

Autonomy
Keeping the unit on two full days, I struggled to do extensive testing of autonomy, but I would say the unit will be situated in normal use in the low average. We will probably spend a short working day if you do not use 3G or wifi too. With a little use of the terminal, it may take two days without using the “push” provided by Google. Thus it is more autonomous than the G1 with the original battery.

HTC Touch HD: the tactile pays. We must get to the evidence that the arrival of the iPhone has caused a real surge in the world of mobile telephony. A Flicker also saving when you know that handset sales were down 2% in 2008 according to a recent research firm GfK. Indeed, if the turnover of the sector remained broadly stable, thanks largely to the development the tactile type smartphone knew in the last year and that grew over 80% right after the iPhone release .

We understand better the strategic aspect of such a product and it’s not Nokia who is paying his delay today that would contradict us. HTC has taken advantage of an early infatuation with its Touch, which was the first to successfully introduce a touchscreen overlay on Windows Mobile. Since then, the range has evolved to highlight the Touch HD. At first glance, one must admit that the Touch HD is very similar to the famous iPhone even though its direct competitor happens to be the Samsung Omnia. Rather late, it is also wide which is not really a surprise given that we must find room for the 3.8-inch screen.

The edges are rounded and the grip is nice with a soft touch coating the back. It has a higher weight than its two direct competitors named above. Remember to strengthen your shirt pocket! From standard it can be said that the screen takes up most of the front of the Touch HD. Four sensitive buttons sit just below to make a call, hang up, go directly to the menu and go back. Every action seen is validated by vibration. The discerning eye will notice the sensor above the screen that is designed for video telephony. Just next is a proximity sensor that automatically turns off the phone when not in use. An important detail when we know that the battery may be highly sought.

Now we are interested in slices of the Touch HD. On top are the switch for ON and OFF and a standard jack. A great advantage for those who intend to listen to music on their phones and keeping their favorite headphones in the mean time. The volume control is done using the buttons on the left edge. Finally, a standard USB plug is integrated in the bottom of the Touch HD.

This serves both to transfer data and recharge the battery. We do not have to be stressed anymore , is the solution for those like me who often forget to take their charger at the office or while traveling. No more headaches , an ordinary USB cable to avoid the damage. Although it is easily controllable by hand, the Touch HD comes with a stylus which is compartment is right next to the USB port. And like the Touch Diamond, it is magnetized so you will not lose it. Finally, the camera sensor takes place in the back but it has no cache and flash.
